Community Ceramics & Wood Firing in East Sussex
The Beaker Folk CIC is a community ceramics organisation based in Stanmer Park near Brighton.
We bring people together through wood-firing, kiln building, clay processing and heritage craft learning. Our aim is to make traditional ceramics and sustainable craft accessible to volunteers, young people and local makers across East Sussex.
What we do
-

Community Kiln Building
We’re constructing a shared wood-fired kiln for local people to use, learn from and fire with. Built and fired by volunteers creating ceramics using ancient techniques.
-

Wood Firing
Hands-on learning sessions in firing, ceramic art and sustainable craft practices.
-
Environmental Craft
We use waste wood that was destined for the incinerator, recycled waste materials and local clays to produce beautiful pottery
The Community Kiln
Brick by Brick
We’re building a new community wood-fired kiln that will serve volunteers, students, young makers and local craftspeople.
The kiln will support hands-on environmental learning, heritage firing techniques and collaborative ceramics rooted in the landscape of Stanmer Park.
The kiln is volunteer-built, and we’re raising funds to cover essential materials like firebricks, insulation and steelwork.
